Well, I got up at 5:30am this morning to make sure I got my run in. I actually set my alarm to go off a bunch of different times. It went off every few minutes and by about 5:30, I wasn't able to go back to sleep and I just got up and made myself go outside.
This was another difficult run. I started out too quickly, I think. I didn't pace myself well and my breathing was all over the place. I hadn't hydrated before I left, so I felt awful. I ran out a mile and then turned around and came back. It was foggy, so I was kind of nervous about running the route I'd decided on. It's a truck route, so the 18-wheelers have to drive it. Usually they're pretty good about slowing down and moving over for me, but with the fog as thick as it was, I was a little worried. Turns out I didn't have to worry about any big trucks. I guess I started too early for them. It was the farmers I needed to watch out for. I'm not sure of the speed limit on the road I run, but I know the first pick up that went by me was going way faster than the speed limit. I was terrified he wasn't going to see me because I could tell he wasn't slowing down. I had decided to run without music today so I didn't have any surprise vehicles coming up behind me and scaring the crap out of me when they passed by me. When the first truck went by me, I was so tempted to flip him the bird because he was clearly speeding, but since I was in the middle of nowhere by myself, I decided that was juvenile and not entirely safe. In my head, though, I was screaming "Hey, I'm frickin' running here!" and waving the finger. LOL
The second truck that went by had the decency to slow down, at least. By the time I got to my in-laws house, I had my second scare. My sister in laws dog thinks she's this big tough thing and she came hauling ass across the yard, barking this deep, throaty, scary bark. I thought for sure she was going to get me. I kept screaming her name but she kept barreling towards me until she hit the property line and then she stopped and just kept barking. Good grief, after six years you'd think the stupid dog would recognize me. Damn dog.
I'm glad to have those two miles over with and now don't have to worry throughout the day about when I'll be able to squeeze it in. It was pretty humid this morning and it was already 64 degrees at 5:30, so it doesn't look like there will be any point in the day that I'll be able to beat the heat. It might be a rough summer and equally rough training.
I decided that during the month of May, I'll be weighing myself on Mondays. I just want to see if that will help keep me accountable on the weekends. :)
Fitness Log:
- run outside - 2 miles/13:44min pace, 27:25 minutes total/243 calories burned
Another rough run. :/
I love that you get up early to fit your runs in.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could get up early to do that. After waking up a few times during the night for my son, I'm not in the mood for running- lol!
I hope weighing in Monday works for you!
